Archive Creator
Archive Creator is a software product I developed along with my friend and associate Michael Tapes of Michael Tapes Designs. It was created to solve this ubiquitous problem facing both consumer and professional photographers as they entered into the digital photography age:
"How do I archive and manage my thousands of digital photo files onto multiple CDs/DVDs?"
Working on this project was a great learning experience since it was a direct-to-consumer product. As such, it involved all areas of product development and management from technical development to marketing, distribution, support, licencing etc. Over the years we sold thousands of copies and had a very active user community of professional, wedding, and prosumer photographers.
Archive Creator, which was written primarily in Visual Basic with a few custom OCXs writing in C++, allowed its users to...
- select large folders of digital photo files
- determine how many CD/DVDs would be needed,
- efficiently distribute the files,
- generate HTML based indexes with thumbnails of all photos
- directly burn to individual as well as robotic burners.
